When Corey Taylor learned that he had to pay a $175 early termination fee to get out of his Verizon contract, he had had enough.

Fed up with dropped calls and a string of defective phones, Corey was determined to end his contract without paying the early termination fee.

But the only way to do that is to die. So that’s what Corey did – he faked his own death.

He designed a fake death certificate and had a friend fax it in. But Verizon caught on and in the end Corey had to pay the early termination fee. The story generated a lot of publicity. Verizon learned it’s lesson. It invested to upgrade it’s cellular network.

But the early termination fee still lives on.
